Peter Butler was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and currently resides in Brooklyn. He graduated from Purchase College where he received his BFA in Photography.
Current projects include views of New York City and it’s surrounding area, as well as views of the American Midwest. Interspersed with individual views are diptychs and triptychs. This portion of his work is part of an ongoing project to use multiple views of a subject to delineate space and create artificial landscapes.
A tertiary project has evolved from his use of a toy camera. This work focuses on momentary snap shots of places visited. Treated as a visual sketchbook, the images help to inform future, more structured photographs.
